Sanaa, July 29 -- A woman was killed in a landmine explosion in Yemen's Hodeidah port city, local medics told Xinhua late Monday.

The incident occurred on Monday evening when the woman was collecting firewood in the al-Hali district, southwest of Hodeidah, and stepped onto the mine, they said.

The Houthi armed group has maintained control over much of northern Yemen, including Hodeidah province and the capital Sanaa, since a civil war erupted in late 2014. The conflict has created a complex web of competing authorities, with the internationally-recognised government operating from Aden.
