Dehradun, Aug. 12 -- A large lake formed on the Bhagirathi river close to the Indian Army camp area at Harshil due to silt and debris brought by the Kheer Ganga river that engulfed Dharali market on August 5, is assuming a worrisome shape, risking the lives of residential areas.

The Irrigation department and Uttarakhand Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (UJVNL) teams are yet to start work on releasing water from the lake.

Garhwal Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey claimed yesterday that UJVNL and the state Irrigation department had started work to discharge water from the lake, but according to the officials in the UJVNL the teams were still weighing options how to begin.
