New Delhi, Oct. 3 -- In a major development, the Supreme Court has been approached by Gitanjali Angmo, wife of Ladakh social activist and education reformer Sonam Wangchuk, challenging his detention under the National Security Act (NSA).

The writ petition, filed under Article 32 of the Constitution, seeks a writ of habeas corpus for Wangchuk's release.

He was detained on September 26 in the aftermath of protests in Ladakh demanding statehood for the region and is reportedly lodged in a jail in Jodhpur, Rajasthan.

Angmo, in her petition, stated that despite a week having passed since his detention, she has not been informed of his health condition or the grounds of his arrest.
