Imphal, Jan. 28 -- The Imphal to Mao national highway sector, considered the lifeline of Manipur, was completely blocked on Wednesday due to protests by various organisations under the platform of the Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) against the reported burning of poppy plantations by a Naga militant group.
The situation stems from an incident in which a Naga militant group reportedly burnt poppy plantations and other materials allegedly belonging to Kuki individuals and purportedly used for making drug in Naga dominated area of Kangpokpi district.
In protest against the burning of the plantations, the Kangpokpi-based CoTU called for a blockade of the national highway.
