Moscow, Dec. 2 -- The Kremlin has confirmed that Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet with US special envoy Steve Witkoff on the afternoon of Dec 2, just days before Putin is set to travel to India for his Dec 4-5 summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters today that preparations were under way, noting that Putin also had "non-public meetings" scheduled as part of the lead-up to the Russian-US contacts.

He said the Kremlin planned to release initial footage of the meeting, and a post-talks statement "is not excluded".
