Kolkata, May 26 -- Hitting an on-duty Kolkata Police officer by a commercial car driver at Kalighat and subsequent investigation led the city police to uncover a racket of how a Bangladeshi national turned an Indian citizen by procuring fake Indian identity cards in only Rs 15,000, officials said on Monday.
The arrested driver Azad Sheikh (41), actually a resident of Faridpur in Bangladesh, crossed over to India via North 24 Parganas in October, 2023. He became an Indian citizen after procuring Aadhaar and voter cards, a driving licence and also an Ayusman Bharat health card, which is not valid in West Bengal.
