Kolkata, Aug. 26 -- Connecting Kolkata from east to west and existing north to south, the Kolkata Metro, the country's oldest underground, achieved a runaway success with an ever-increasing record number of commuters immediately after Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off three new routes of a nearly 14 km stretch late last week.
The massive inflow of passengers was witnessed at the two gateways of this over 300-year-old city in Howrah and Sealdah stations, where many commuters in peak hours decided on surface train services to get underground in the morning hours and back home in the evening hours.
