Kolkata, May 2 -- Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) Mayor Firhad Hakim on Friday announced a blanket ban on rooftop restaurants in this city, three days after a blaze in a central Kolkata hotel killed 14 people on Tuesday, official sources said.
Hakim, also the West Bengal urban development minister, announced a complete ban on rooftop restaurants and commercial setups atop the buildings in this metropolitan city. His announcement came after a talk with city police administration and the fire brigade department following a series of fire, including that of Rituraj Hotel in the busy and congested wholesale market -Burrabazar.
