Kolkata, July 13 -- Kolkata Police have set up a nine-member high-level Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the alleged rape of a girl by a 2nd year student in the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta, officials said today.

The second-year student, identified as Mahaveer Toppannvar alias Parmanand Jain, was arrested on Friday after the Haridevpur Police station swung into action following an FIR lodged by the victim girl. She alleged she was called by the accused for a counselling session in the institute on Friday at noon and she was given a soft drink and food.

The woman claimed she fell unconscious after having that food and on regaining consciousness, found she was being raped, according to the FIR.
