Kochi, Sept. 21 -- The Kochi Water Metro has achieved a historic milestone by carrying over 5 million passengers within just 29 months of its launch, reaffirming its status as one of India's fastest-growing urban transport projects.
Launched on April 25, 2023, by the Kerala Government, the Water Metro has become a vital lifeline for island residents and a popular tourist attraction, prompting the union Government to replicate it in 21 cities and attracting interest from several foreign countries.
The record was achieved on Friday after when Naina and Amala, an Australia-based Malayali couple, purchased tickets from the High Court terminal to Fort Kochi, pushing the cumulative ridership past the 50-lakh mark.
