Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 2 -- India produced 33,345 tonnes of seaweed in 2023, worth around Rs 200 crore - less than one per cent of global output - despite its 10,000-km long coastline offering vast potential for large-scale cultivation and value-added products, expertshave noted.

In a major push to tap this Blue Economy opportunity, Kochi will host the country's first-ever International Seaweed Symposium from March 5 to 7, 2026.
