Mumbai, April 2 -- The mango hailed as the "King of Fruits" due to its exquisite sweet taste, intense aroma, and high nutritional value, its first big flush of Alphonso (Hapus) mangoes has reached Agricultural Produce Market Committee market (APMC) in Navi Mumbai's Vashi, the primary wholesale fruit hub for the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, but prices remain firm as arrivals lag demand, traders said on Thursday.
APMC Fruit Market director Sanjay Pansare said that boxes of Hapus are trading between Rs 2,000 and Rs 8,000 (most packs contain 5-9 dozen).
"If arrivals pick up in April, Konkan Hapus typically 5 to 8 dozen per box may ease to Rs 2,00 to Rs 3,500" he added.
