Bhubaneswar, June 4 -- In a major achievement, doctors at the Kalinga Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) have successfully performed a rare allogeneic bone marrow transplant on a 17-year-old female patient diagnosed with Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis (HLH).

The patient, who has a rare genetic blood disorder, had been undergoing cancer chemotherapy for six months before being considered for the transplant.

The procedure was an allogeneic bone marrow transplant, in which healthy bone marrow from a donor is infused into the patient.
