New Delhi, Nov. 23 -- Showering praise on former Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday described the late leader as one of Northeast's most venerated political figures and credited him with successfully steering the state through years of insurgency and instability.
In a message posted on social media on Gogoi's birth anniversary, Kharge said he played a "decisive role" in checking militancy and rebuilding social harmony in the state, thereby opening the door to "peace and progress" in Assam.
"We remember his contributions," Kharge wrote, describing Gogoi as a leader who devoted his life to the state's development and welfare.
