Mumbai, March 23 -- Congress MLA Vijay Wadettiwar has demanded stringent action against self-styled godman Ashok Kharat and has also called for action against ministers and senior officials allegedly linked to him. He said those who supported Kharat should be made co-accused and face strict legal consequences.
Raising the issue in the Legislative Assembly, Wadettiwar said it was unfortunate that superstition was flourishing in Maharashtra, a state known for its progressive legacy. He alleged that such activities were being enabled due to political and administrative backing, which was a matter of serious concern and embarrassment for the state.
