Chandigarh, Jan. 1 -- Punjab Congress MLA from Bholath, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, has strongly criticised the Bhagwant Mann-government over the registration of criminal cases against independent journalists and RTI activists, terming the action vindictive, false, and politically driven.
In a statement, Khaira said the FIRs reflect a deliberate attempt to silence voices that question the government's functioning, alleged corruption, and administrative failures. He described the move as a direct attack on press freedom and democratic dissent, asserting that targeting journalists and RTI activists for performing their constitutional role amounts to state-backed intimidation.
