Chandigarh, Nov. 2 -- Senior Congress leader and Bholath MLA, Sukhpal Singh Khaira, today accused the BJP-led Central Government of carrying out a "deliberate assault" on the autonomy of Panjab University through recent amendments to the Panjab University Act, 1947.
The notification, issued by the Ministry of Education on October 28 under the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, significantly changes the university's governance structure reducing elected representation and increasing central control.
Khaira termed the move an "undemocratic overreach" that undermines Punjab's rights and the university's independent character.
