Chandigarh, Jan. 13 -- Punjab Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira has written to Governor Gulab Chand Kataria expressing serious concern over recent amendments made to the Punjab Land Preservation Act (PLPA) by the Bhagwant Mann-led AAP government, warning that the changes could have damaging ecological and governance consequences.
In his letter, Khaira said the amendments pose a threat to Punjab's fragile environment, particularly the Kandi belt and eco-sensitive zones around Chandigarh. He noted that the PLPA was originally enacted to protect forests, prevent soil erosion, conserve groundwater, and maintain the state's ecological balance.
