Thiruvananthpuram, July 31 -- The production and sales of Khadi in Kerala witnessed substantial growth - rising from 56pc to 65pc in the last two years, resulting in the creation of over 12,000 jobs.

Under the Market Development Assistance (MMDA) scheme, the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) provides around Rs 14 crore annually to Khadi institutions in Kerala.

"Of this, Rs 4 crore is credited directly to artisans' bank accounts as a 35% incentive on production, while Rs1.5 crore is extended to Karyakartas as a 14% incentive, ensuring a steady livelihood for thousands of families," said Manoj Kumar, Chairman, KVIC.
