Thrissur, April 9 -- A young woman in Thrissur was initially denied the right to vote at a local polling station due to a prior finger injury, sparking protests and attracting the attention of election officials.

The voter, Akshaya, a resident of Kurukkancherry, had sustained a serious injury to her right index finger, which required about 15 stitches.

When she arrived at the Swami Bodhananda School polling booth, officials refused to allow her to vote, claiming she could not operate the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) due to her injury.

Despite presenting medical reports confirming her condition, the presiding officers maintained that she could not vote.
