Kozhikode, Sept. 8 -- A 56-year-old woman, M. Sobhana of Malappuram district, undergoing treatment at Kozhikode Medical College Hospital (KMCH) since September 4, succumbed to amoebic meningitis today, taking the death toll from the dreaded disease to five within a month.

The KMCH alone has seen four deaths in the last 10 days, while an equal number of patients is undergoing treatment for the disease. One of the patients is reported to be in a critical condition today morning, sources said.

Of the four who died at KMCH included a three-month-old boy, Muhammed Sahil from Omassery, who died on August 30; Anaya, a 9-year-old girl from Thamarassery, who passed away on August 16; Ramla, a 52-year-old woman from Cheroor near Kunnamangalam in Ma...
