Thiruvananthapuram, Oct. 4 -- In a poignant act of compassion, the family of K. Ajitha, a 46-year-old woman from Chalappuram in Kozhikode, donated her organs after she was declared brain dead, bringing hope and new life to several patients.

Ajitha's heart was transplanted into a 44-year-old woman from Kozhikode, who had been undergoing treatment at Metro Hospital.

Along with her heart, Ajitha's liver, two kidneys and two corneas were also donated. One kidney and both corneas were handed over to the Government Medical College, Kozhikode, while the other kidney and liver were successfully transplanted at Baby Memorial Hospital (BMH).

Ajitha, a mother of two, had been admitted to BMH on September 28 following a cardiac arrest.
