Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 20 -- In a significant move towards sustainable infrastructure, the Kerala government has decided to introduce Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) technology in road construction on a pilot basis.

RAP involves milling and removing the existing road surface and reusing the material to construct new layers.

Officials said the method not only conserves raw materials but also helps reduce environmental concerns, while ensuring greater durability of roads without imposing a major financial burden.

The trial project will be implemented on the Killippalam-Pravachambalam stretch in Thiruvananthapuram district, Public Works Department (PWD) Minister P.A. Muhammad Riyas said.
