Thiruvananthapuram, March 21 -- Kerala became the first state in the country to pass a law establishing a Commission for the Elderly, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has said.

The Commission aims to ensure the rights, welfare, and rehabilitation of the elderly, the Chief Minister said in a Statement on Thursday.

"A pioneer in social welfare, Kerala State once again leads the way by empowering its elderly to actively contribute to society, reinforcing its people-centric development model," he added.
