Thiruvananthapuram, Nov. 28 -- Kerala has launched a major crackdown on motorists violating pedestrian safety rules after the state recorded more than 800 pedestrian deaths this year.
The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has warned that reckless driving at zebra crossings and persistent disregard for pedestrian rights have become a serious public safety concern.
Officials have observed that many two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers are failing to show basic courtesy to pedestrians, often parking their vehicles directly on zebra crossings and even on footpaths, putting countless lives at risk.
