Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 28 -- Kerala Government has spent Rs 19,575 crore on welfare measures and relief benefits during the Onam season, despite the financial constraints caused by Central policies, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

"The government was able to mobilise the required resources by rationalising expenditure and intensifying tax collection efforts. This enabled us to ensure timely distribution of salaries, pensions, festival allowances and other benefits during Onam," the CM said.

Of the total allocation, Rs 12,100 crore was set aside for salaries, bonuses, pensions, festival allowances, Onam advances, dearness allowance and relief. An additional Rs 1,800 crore was disbursed towards two instalments of welfare pensions. ...
