Kochi, June 21 -- Kerala government has urged the Centre to sanction special financial assistance of Rs 620 crore for the implementation of projects to resolve issues related to human-wildlife conflict in the state.

The government also urged the union government to amend the Wildlife Protection Act-1972 to effectively curb human-wildlife conflict and declare wild boar as vermin species.

Kerala Forest Minister A.K. Saseendran expressed his displeasure at the Centre's letter to Kerala on June 11, 2025, stating that hunting of any wild animal listed under Schedules I and II of the Act is prohibited, except in exceptional circumstances.
