Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 17 -- Kerala's most ambitious road project, the six-laning of National Highway (NH-66) under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, is running far behind schedule, with only about 41 pc of the 582-km corridor completed.

Envisaged as a game-changer linking Kasaragod to Thiruvananthapuram, the highway today stands as a stark reminder of the state's chronic delays in infrastructure building, even as the rest of India pushes ahead at record speed.

While north Kerala has made visible headway, with the Kozhikode bypass and Talapady, Chengala stretches nearing 80 per cent completion and is targeted for commissioning in early 2025; the central and southern belts remain stuck in the slow lane.
