Kozhikode, Sept. 4 -- Kerala's first female forensic expert, Dr Shirley Vasu, died due to cardiac arrest at her residence at Mayanad, today.

She fell at her house around 11am and rushed to Kozhikode Medical College hospital (KMCH), but could not save her life. She was 68 and survived by husband Dr K Balakrishnan and two children, Nandana and Nithin.

Forensic Surgeon Shirley Vasu from Thodupuzha was honoured with the Kerala government's prestigious Vanitha Rathnam award named as Justice Fathima Beevi award in 2017.
