Thiruvananthapuram, July 22 -- Kerala's capital bid a solemn farewell to former Chief Minister and CPM veteran V.S. Achuthanandan, with his mortal remains taken to Alappuzha for the funeral procession following a Kerala Police guard of honour.

People from all walks of life paid their last respects at his residence in Thiruvananthapuram and at the Durbar Hall of the Government Secretariat.

As the mortal remains were brought to the Durbar Hall at 9 a.m, thousands had already gathered at the Secretariat to offer their tributes.
