Kochi, Sept. 11 -- Kerala has recorded its first robotic-assisted coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) surgery, marking a significant advancement in cardiac care.
The procedure was performed on a 42-year-old woman from Guruvayur, Thrissur district, who recovered rapidly and was discharged four days after the operation from Aster Medcity here.
The patient, diagnosed with severe triple vessel disease, was not suitable for conventional angioplasty. Instead of a traditional open-heart procedure, doctors opted for a robotic-assisted minimally invasive direct coronary artery bypass (MIDCAB), which involved smaller incisions, less scarring, faster recovery and reduced risk of complications.
