Thiruvananthapuram, May 29 -- Kerala has now overtaken Punjab to become the number one state in substance abuse, BJP State President Rajeev Chandrasekhar has alleged.

"Add to this the unchecked rise in drug abuse, and the state is staring at a full-blown public health crisis. This is not just a policy failure; it's a betrayal of an entire generation," Chandrasekhar said.

"When the LDF came to power in 2016, their grand slogan was to 'shut down bars and open schools.' However, during the last nine years, they opened 807 new bars, expanding alcohol access in the state like never before," he felt.
