Kochi, Dec. 5 -- Congress MLA Rahul Mamkootathil has approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in the rape and forced-abortion case registered against him, a day after the Principal District and Sessions Court in the Kerala Capital denied him pre-arrest protection.
The sessions court, after examining medical reports, witness statements, and digital evidence in a closed-door hearing, observed that the allegations, including repeated sexual assault, impregnation, and coercing the complainant into an abortion, were too serious to justify granting anticipatory bail at this stage.
The court noted that early protection could impede the ongoing investigation.
