Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 17 -- Kerala Minister for Cultural Affairs Saji Cherian had a narrow escape after the vehicle in which he was travelling met with an accident near Vamanapuram on Wednesday.

The Minister was on his way from Chengannur to Thiruvananthapuram to attend a Cabinet meeting when the incident occurred.

According to preliminary reports, the rear tyre of the car, on the side where the Minister was seated, suddenly came off and was flung away, leading to the accident. Eyewitnesses said the Minister and members of his entourage escaped by a hair's breadth.

The car had reportedly undergone servicing recently and had covered only around 500 kilometres thereafter, raising concerns over a possible mechanical failure.
