Thiruvananthapuram, Sept. 15 -- Kerala has achieved a major milestone in haemophilia care as a 32-year-old woman from Thrissur became the first female patient in the country to receive Emicizumab prophylaxis.
"The treatment was initiated at Thrissur Medical College Hospital under close medical supervision after extensive evaluation and counselling," officials said.
Health Minister Veena George hailed the initiative as a "historic step" in haemophilia treatment, noting that Kerala was the first state in India to roll out Emicizumab prophylaxis, offering dramatic relief to patients. She recalled that in 2025 the state also drafted the country's first guidelines for managing excessive bleeding in women.
