Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 26 -- Elections to mayoral posts in Kerala's municipal corporations were held on Friday as newly elected councillors, who had taken oath earlier, voted to choose their internal leadership. In the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, VV Rajesh of the BJP was elected Mayor, securing 51 votes-50 from BJP councillors and one from an independent councillor, Patoor Radhakrishnan.
The LDF candidate, R.P. Shivaji, polled 29 votes, while UDF nominee KS Sabarinathan received 17 votes. Two UDF votes - cast by councillors S. Lathika and K. R. Cleetus - were declared invalid due to errors in signatures. Independent councillor Sudheesh Kumar abstained from the mayoral vote.
