Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 9 -- The first phase of polling for the Kerala local body elections began today at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm.
Voting is being held across 595 local bodies in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam districts.
These include 471 Gram Panchayats, 75 Block Panchayats, 7 District Panchayats, 39 Municipalities and 3 Corporations. In all, 11,168 wards - 8,310 in Gram Panchayats, 1,090 in Block Panchayats, 164 in District Panchayats, 1,371 in Municipalities and 233 in Corporations - will go to the polls today.
