Kollam, Nov. 27 -- The Kerala High Court has initiated contempt proceedings against the state government for failing to implement its directive to establish the Ashtamudi Wetland Management Unit, aimed at preventing pollution and encroachment in Ashtamudi Lake.
The July 29, 2025, division bench ruling had mandated the formation of a 30-member unit, comprising officials from government departments and NGOs, within two months.
The unit was to hold its first meeting within two months of notification, finalise its governance structure, office setup, staffing, and operational funds, and create a dedicated website for public access, including complaint submission via audio and video.
