Kochi, Dec. 18 -- The Kerala High Court on Thursday extended the interim protection from arrest granted to MLA Rahul Mamkootathil in a rape case, posting the hearing of his anticipatory bail plea to January 7, 2026.

The extension was granted as the earlier interim order restraining the police from arresting him was set to expire on Thursday. The court directed that Rahul should not be taken into custody until the next hearing.

Following the registration of the cases, the Congress party had expelled Rahul from its primary membership.

Rahul approached the High Court after the Sessions Court in Thiruvananthapuram rejected his anticipatory bail application in the first rape case registered against him. His counsel submitted that the interim ...
