Thiruvananthapuram, April 21 -- Kerala Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar condoled the demise of Pope Francis.
In a message he said, "Pope Francis was a beacon of compassion and had emphasized mercy, compassion for the poor, and the downtrodden. A votary of interfaith dialogue he also showed compassion towards LGBT community."
Pope Francis was also a vehement critic of unbridled capitalism and unrestrained consumerism which resulted in environmental destruction making global climate action a key focus, the Governor said on Monday.
The Pope had focused on creating open and supportive communities empowering the poor. The Pope's humble life style and commitment for welfare of the poor had made him earn the respect across continents.
