Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 9 -- The Kerala State Goods and Services Tax (GST) Department has uncovered large-scale tax evasion during a statewide inspection of catering service establishments under "Operation Crookshanks."The joint operation by the Intelligence and Enforcement wings of the department revealed turnover evasion amounting to Rs 80.14 crore and tax evasion of Rs 4.42 crore, based on preliminary findings, sources said.

The inspections were carried out simultaneously on January 6, 2026, covering 62 locations across the state, including catering units, their branch offices, and the residences of proprietors. As part of the enforcement action, the department has so far collected Rs 1.25 crore towards tax and penalties.
