Thiruvananthapuram, Dec. 13 -- Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan today acknowledged that the results of the local body elections had fallen short of the expectations of the CPI(M)-led Left Democratic Front (LDF).

While the front had aimed for strong statewide gains, it was unable to achieve the desired momentum, he said in a release.

Vijayan said the LDF would carefully examine the reasons behind the outcome and take the necessary corrective steps. He expressed concern over the NDA's victory in the state capital, noting that "communal elements" in the election campaign had raised apprehensions among supporters of secularism.
