Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 15 -- Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday called for a renewed commitment to democracy, secularism, and social justice, warning against both external and internal threats to the nation's unity.

Speaking after hoisting the national flag at the Central Stadium to mark the 79th Independence Day, the Chief Minister urged citizens to rededicate themselves to the unfulfilled dreams of the freedom struggle - an India free from poverty, hunger, illiteracy, unemployment, caste discrimination, and religious hatred.
