Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 29 -- One of the major highlights of the Kerala Budget is the announcement of free education up to the degree level across the State, along with a massive allocation of Rs 5,917 crore for the development of the MC Road. Of this, Rs 5,217 crore will be mobilised through the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIFBI) for upgrading the Thiruvananthapuram-Angamaly stretch into a four-lane road with a width of 24 metres.

An allocation of Rs 15 crore has been earmarked for accident insurance coverage for students from Class I to plus two. The budget also provides an additional Rs 1,000 crore for employment guarantee schemes.
