Thiruvananthapuram, Aug. 21 -- The Kerala unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for a thorough investigation into alleged irregularities in the state's Masala Bond transactions, accusing senior CPI(M) leaders of money laundering and corruption.

"When former Finance Minister Thomas Isaac raised Rs 2,150 crore through Masala Bonds in London, a commission of Rs 21 crore was paid. The government must clarify who received this money. Evidence suggests hawala operations and a 'reverse hawala' system were used to launder the ill-gotten wealth of CPI(M) leaders through state projects," alleged BJP State General Secretary MT Ramesh.
