Malappuram, June 5 -- The Election Commission of India on Thursday declared a public holiday in Kerala's Nilambur Assembly constituency on June 19, the day of by-poll for the seat.

Kerala Chief Electoral Officer Ratan U Khelkar said all government offices and educational institutions within the constituency would observe a public holiday on June 19.

Meanwhile, the Labour Commissioner is making the necessary arrangements to declare paid leave for employees of private establishments under the Shops and Commercial Establishments Act.

Khelkar also announced that June 19 and 20 would be a "dry day" (when no alcohol can be sold or consumed). UNI AK SSP
