Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 22 -- Proceedings in the Kerala Legislative Assembly were disrupted and ultimately adjourned on Thursday after a heated protest by Opposition Congress-led UDF members over the Sabarimala gold smuggling case.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) stormed the well of the House with placards and slogans, demanding the resignation of Devaswom Minister V. N. Vasavan and alleging that the Chief Minister's Office was exerting pressure on the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the gold smuggling allegations.

As the session got underway, the UDF members ignored parliamentary procedure and raised a commotion instead of submitting a formal adjournment motion on the issue.
