Kochi, July 13 -- A trader has been fined Rs 15,519 for misleading advertising and engaging in unfair trade practices by offering a 64% discount during the inauguration of a retail store.
The Ernakulam District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has directed the trader to pay compensation after a consumer alleged he was misled by a false advertisement.
Manuel Vincent, a native of Malippuram and a resident of Ernakulam, approached the Commission following a misleading promotional offer by MyG Future. In February 2023, enticed by the advertisement promising a 64% discount, he purchased a 10-litre biryani pot for Rs 1,199.
