Thiruvananthapuram, Jan. 6 -- The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has directed the State government to pay a compensation of Rs 5 lakh in connection with the shocking incident in which a patient was trapped inside a lift at the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital for 42 hours.
Issuing the order, Commission Chairperson Justice Alexander Thomas said the amount should be paid within two months to Ravindran Nair, a resident of Pongumoodu. The government may subsequently recover the compensation, in accordance with law, from the officials or agencies found responsible.
If lapses are established on the part of the company entrusted with lift maintenance, appropriate legal action may also be initiated against it. A compliance report...
