Thrissur, Oct. 3 -- In a first, a 16-year-old Muslim girl performed Kathakali, a dance form based on Hindu mythology, at Kerala Kalamandalama, a traditional dance institution in Cheruthuruthy, on the occasion of Vijayadashami day yesterday.
Sabri made her debut in the 'Krishna Vesham ' stepping on to the stage alongside her six classmates and that was a moment she described as "long cherished dream come true".
Sabri's journey with Kathakali began in 2023 when she joined Kalamandalam as an eighth grade student. At that time her admission marked a milestone as a girl from the Muslim community had never enrolled to learn Kathakali at the institution.
